Students in Georgia are returning to class in the fall of 2025, and many cities are taking steps to prevent speeding in school zones. Although this topic has proven highly controversial among many Georgia residents, school zone cameras are popping up throughout the state. Residents must be aware of this reality, as the fines and other consequences associated with school zone speeding tickets can be considerable. If you have received a speeding ticket in a Georgia school zone, you may be able to push back and keep your license.
Roswell Switches On Its Automated School Zone Cameras
In late July of 2025, The Georgia Sun reported that the municipality of Roswell was switching its automated school zone cameras on. The report noted that these cameras will remain active throughout the entire school day – and not just during dismissal and arrival times. As with many other traffic cameras throughout Georgia, flashing lights indicate that the speed limits in school zones are enforceable. In these situations, drivers will face automated tickets if they travel at 15 mph over the speed limit.
Savannah Reactivates Its School Zone Speed Cameras
Savannah also took similar steps, with the Savannah Police warning residents of the reactivation of all school zone cameras. These cameras will start coming back online on August 4th, and by August 11th, they will all be active across the city. The Savannah Police notes that these cameras become active 45 minutes before classes start, and they will remain online until 30 minutes after dismissal.
Chatham County Turns Its School Zone Cameras Back On
In similar news, Chatham County also announced the full reactivation of its existing school zone cameras. County representatives noted that after installing these cameras, speed violations have fallen considerably. However, not everyone in the community is happy about these cameras.
City of Ocilla Reinstates School Zone Safety Program
Also in late July, the City of Ocilla made a similar announcement and vowed to reinstate its School Zone Safety Program. This program includes school zone safety cameras operated by RedSpeed Georgia, and drivers can expect similar consequences if they break speed limits in school zones.
Expect Traffic Cameras Coming Back Online All Over the State
These are only a few examples of counties and cities that have taken steps to reactivate traffic cameras in Georgia. There are probably many others taking similar steps, so drivers should assume that these cameras are active whenever they pass through a school zone.
