Georgia is Cracking Down on Drug Trafficking Networks

People may enter the drug trade for a variety of reasons. Some do so against their will after being forced to participate in crimes committed by family members. Others may have very few career choices outside of a life of crime. Others might simply get caught up with the wrong crowd. Whatever the case may be, it is important to know that Georgia takes drug offenses seriously, especially if you are involved in drug trafficking.

If you face these crimes, it makes sense to get in touch with a qualified criminal defense attorney at your earliest convenience. Although Georgia’s stance on drug crimes is strict, there is no sense in accepting needlessly excessive penalties. Book a consultation with a private defense attorney, and you can immediately get started with an effective defense strategy.

Gang Leader Somehow Runs Drug Trafficking Operation From Inside Prison

On July 29th, it was reported that a gang member had been running a full-scale drug operation from within his cell at Dooly State Prison. He was distributing meth and other drugs throughout South Georgia using a surprisingly sophisticated network. The 41-year-old was eventually sentenced to 444 months in federal prison. He is currently serving a life sentence for murder.

How did he manage to do this? The authorities say that his system relied on a network of contraband cell phones and contacts on the outside. He also compromised several prison guards – assumedly by bribing them. The defendant connected with fellow gang members on the outside. These gang members, known as Gangster Disciples, had operated various “trap houses” under the guidance of the imprisoned defendant. Although the trap houses were used to store meth primarily, other drugs such as marijuana were also stored and distributed.

After successfully infiltrating this network, police seized “multiple kilograms” of drugs and almost 24 illegal firearms. They also liberated seven vehicles and over $12,000 in cash.

Multi-Million-Dollar Drug Stash Seized in Gainesville

On August 1st, it was reported that a 38-year-old individual had been arrested after being caught with millions of dollars worth of meth, cocaine, heroin, and psilocybin mushrooms. First, the authorities raided a wooded area and found eight kilos of meth and 20 kilos of liquid methamphetamine. The total worth of these products was almost $3 million.

I realized the true function of a lawyer was to unite parties riven asunder. The lesson was so indelibly burnt into me that a large part of my time during the twenty years of my practice as a lawyer was occupied in bringing about private compromises of hundreds of cases. I lost nothing thereby — not even money, certainly not my soul.
